If you are bringing students to see Matilda The Musical or are just starting work on the story of Matilda we have created a pack of practical ideas which you can use with your students to introduce them to the characters, story and themes. It is aimed at KS2 students and lower KS3 but the activities can be adapted to be used with students of all ages. Click on the Teachers Resources box at bottom of the page to open the pack. We hope you enjoy using it.
This site also contains additional resources based on the artistic process of staging Matilda The Musical to help support your students in their own creative writing.
With specially filmed interviews and interactive resources students will see how writer Dennis Kelly and composer Tim Minchin set about adapting the novel for the stage.
Students can follow a similar creative journey and, by working through the site, they will be supported to create a scene or a song for a new character in the story of Matilda The Musical.
You will find web pages for each of the steps that we feel are essential in the writing process:
- Creating a believable Character
- Planning a strong Plot - including an Inspiration
- Developing Music and Lyrics
- Writing the Dialogue
- Editing what has been written and then Rehearsing it
Whether students follow this writing journey or not, there is wealth of resources for you to use in the classroom.
